I've finally managed to get a couple of shots of my boy wearing his
Wallaby. For those of you who have made this, what do you think of
picking up stitches from the inside, say just below the bottom of the
placket, and knitting in a second layer that doubles as a turtleneck
type thing? Yesterday was (uncharacteristically) chilly and he wanted
to wear the sweater to school, but complained that it didn't keep his
neck warm.

I can tell (now) that the hood is too large, so I may pick out the
seam and rip it back a few inches. Note I said *may*, I have plenty
of other knitting on my plate right now, including October squares :)

What about a draw-string or ties? Instead of ripping part of the hood out
to make it smaller use the extra material to gather about his neck by tying
it closer with the string. Saw the sweater, it's beautiful and I loved the
color! Tell me where does he get that magnificent red hair? He's cute as a
button as well lol. Also what about buttons by the neck. You may not have
to make button holes because they could just go through the stitches to
fasten it up.

Thanks for sharing your pictures, Slinky. That's a lovely sweater. (The

Gorgeous, SLinky! THe ones I have done did not have as large an opening as
yours. I think that he definitely needs something there to keep him snug.
Try knitting up for a turtle neck, but keep it stretchy. (I know, preaching
to the choir, here! LOL)

I love the color of the sweater. And I don't think I'd pick apart the
hood, it does have built in growing room now. Unlike the hooded sweater I
made my daughter last year: the hood wasn't tall enough and I had made it
of Red Heart Baby Clouds yarn (can't tell one stitch from another) and just
didn't have the energy to try to pick it out and fix it. At least as he
gets a little taller over the next few months, his hood will still fit.

I would pick up stiches and knit a button closure that could either hold the
hood closed and warm around the neck, or be buttoned in back to hold the
rolled up hood against the back of the neck -- I hate hoods that dangle
open - but that is just me.

I like big floppy hoods like that for fishing. They make me feel like a
monk; then I am able to stay very still and actually catch a fish!

A beautiful son and lovely sweater. I would do like Cori suggested, crochet a
cord and see if you can run it around the neck to draw it tighter. That way as
he grows, you can make it not at tight.
