beadpoint question
 

hello all -

I've been reading, trying to learn a new craft. Apparently I've picked a
more obscure part of beadwork or you all are not a group who practice it. I
have a question or two. I've been trying to find seedbeads sized 15/0
locally. I've tried a couple shops that I thought would have a good
selection of beads [like Glad Rags] and none of them carry beads smaller
than 10/0. While there is another shop I will try tomorrow [hoping it is
open on MLK Day], I am wondering how to change my "gauge" to meet my need.
My directions tell me to use the 15/0 seed beads on #18 interlock
canvas[petit or needlepoint canvas]. If I switch to the 10/0 beads what
size canvas should I go to to keep the pattern looking right? This is my
very first venture into beads of any sort and I had to pick beadpoint, but I
really want to do it because it is so similar to one of my favorite needle
arts: counted cross stitch.

I'm in Central Florida, on the coast. There used to be a lovely shop in
Cocoa Village, but it appears to have left as something else occupies that
space now. I'm hoping that the place i spied today [which was closed :-(]
is open tomorrow and carries them. I am also having a lovely time checking
out your link!

What types of things do you make? I'm pondering jewelry and barrettes.

I don't do beadpoint, though I'm familiar with it. I saw a small
scissors case done in beadpoint once that I really wanted badly.

I am, however, a lover of and collector of tiny beads. 15/0 are pretty
easy to find, though you may not be able to find them locally. Do a
Google search and you will see zillions of suppliers.

In my opinion, switching to larger beads would just be icky. You
wouldn't get the nice delicate intricate look of the smaller beads.
Most suppliers are very quick, and I can pretty much guarantee that by
ordering via catalog or online that you will pay significantly less
for your beads.

Tatanka Beads (which is what I think you're talking about) has moved
from the village to 234 King Street. I am SURE she has what you need.
Their number is 321-636-4104.

I was just there week before last! Tell Becky that Tink from Black
Swamp Glassworks says hello! She just started carrying my beads.

I will be in there tomorrow morning! Thank you for the redirection! Since
you know the village, allow me to proudly suggest you visit the Space Coast
Crafters' Co-op on Brevard St. [across from Village Cappuccino]. I have a
number of pressed flower works in there, which I am, ofcourse, quite proud
of, but there are a number of fantastic crafters who sell there and you may
well enjoy your visit!

beaded jewelry - not beads.

I peeked at the lovely things you have on your web site. You have some
marvelously stunning items there. I'm like you, I want to use the beads and
I will leave the making of them to someone else. We have a lamplighter in
our co-op and I stand in awe of some of the things she has made. Absolutely
amazing. But, not my forte.

Have you looked at the Links List? Not only does it have retail websites where
you can buy beads (a million of 'em), but it has info under General
