minimal workspace for grinding lenses by
Allan Adler
What is the minimal workspace one needs to grind telescope lenses? I have
some idea of the process as a result of reading Strong's book, Procedures
of Experimental Physics, a couple of decades ago. On the other hand, someone
contemplating grinding lenses in a small apartment has to find a way to...

panel cleaning / white mold by
Steve Roberts
Greetings, All -
We're having a problem at the studio where I work, and it seems like the
sort of thing someone here may have encountered. Our copper foil projects
develop a white mold on the solder lines, sometimes very quickly (i.e., as
soon as 36 hours) after they are completed, despite...

Scratced window panes on new door. Help!! by
Dave Burbank
I'm discouraged... I have purchased three stunning Karona solid oak
doors for my home. Two of the doors are absolutely beautiful. But one
came from the factory with scratches on the windows. Unfortunately, we
didn't see the scratches until after hanging, finishing, and removing
the "protective"...

Using Titanium Pen for Electroforming on Glass by
Tink
Has anyone here used a Titanium pen for electroforming on glass? Rather than
reinventing the wheel on my own, I thought I'd ask here before jumping in.
Thanks

Anneal - cut - retemper by
Steve Ackman
I got an e-mail asking where one might get some tempered
glass cut. The pieces in question are 3 meters by 2 meters
by 1 and 1.2 cm thick.
I suggested that it may well be cheaper to simply have
the new pieces manufactured from scratch, but the querant
wishes to shop around... so the question is,...

Screen-printing marbles by
Thomas Womack
I've seen marbles screen-printed with pictures of the Earth from space
at a couple of places, and been very impressed. But there are eight other
planets out there, plus half a dozen major moons, that would look very
good on marbles.
Is this the sort of place where I could ask how much it might...

How did they do this in production? by
C Ryman
I was looking at my sisters ring holders which are at least 30 years old (I
think). They are probably from China or something. I was wondering how
they would do this work in production and not thermal shock it.
It seems like they tack the ends of thick pink stringer to a white base, put
on...

washing glass after firing by
Boner the Cat
Hi All,
I wash our glass in a mixture of CLR and water after it comes from the kiln
to remove any scale or whatever. I sure makes it shine.
I was wondering if any other chemical does the same job. CLR or Lime away
is expensive and there must be a chemical bath that would do the same...

Glass studios in Houston area by

Hi ---
I will be traveling on business to Houston, and will have time to kill while
there. Can any of you tell me whether there are any glass stores/studios
with open torch time, or perhaps torchwork or fusing classes? I'd love to
be able to get my glass fix in while traveling. (I'll be...
