new to porcelain by
Deborah M Riel
I just touched porcelain for the first time tonight. It's so soft,
and I love the way it feels! I've been working with flameware all
year, and that stuff will rip the skin off your hands and it feels
like glass slivers are embedded in your skin after working with it.
Any hints for throwing? I'm...

I've been making pottery at a community studio for the past 3-4 years. This
studio uses gas fired (cone 10) kiln and glazes. Recently, I've been using
a couple of different slips (dark blue,...

Newbie (Dumb Question) Why can't one put glaze on Greenware? by
NoSpam
Why can't one put glaze on Greenware? I don't understand...
I think the glaze would just soke into the greenware and leave the color
The glaze is just a glass sealer. What would happend if one glazed
greenware?
Does the greenware shrink in the kiln? Can someone explain?
Thanks...

where to begin.
The instruction book is written is very bad broken English, translated
from Spanish. I have someone from Laguna Clay Company coming out to
show me, but I kinda want to make sure it's even hooked up...

Newbie about to embark on adventure by
Fred
Now I finally have enough to fill a kiln for a bisq firing as soon as
everything is dry. It will be my second attempt. The first time (sad to
have to admit) I thought cone 06 was the kiln controller's way of displaying
cone 6, and I didn't understand I was supposed to bisq fire before the
actual...

Newbie Adventure Report by
Fred
Thanks to some great advice from this newsgroup -- and to a touch of blind
luck -- my bisque firing succeeded! We opened th kiln yesterday afternoon.
I had a dozen or so items appx 16" tall plus many (warped) test tiles (made
before I learned on this NG how to keep them flat). Miraculously,...
