are building.......
1. What is the best way to attach canvas to the table (hardware
wise)---the table is wood?
2. What's the most appropriate type of plaster to use and where can I

Home? by
Minstrel Pig
Greetings,
I just started reading this newsgroup today. I've already found a
wealth of information. Have I found a home?
I've been working in the clay-arts for about three decades (not
professionally) and have moved around for most of them. I've finally found
some stability and have started...

Different clay thickness in same firing by
CNB
Are there problems with firing a kiln load with bowls that are different
thicknesses? I want to fire some large bowls with some items that are
smaller and thinner in between the large bowls to fill the space. I can only
fit 2-3 bowls on a shelf and there is room left that could fit other...

Changing a vases colour. by
Jay Kaner
Hello Group.
I have a beautiful 1950's vase with a classic 50's shape. The shape is
fantastic, but the colour of it is, to be honest, a bit yucky.
Basically, what I'd like to know is is it possible to change the colour and
re-glaze the vase after it has already been finished? Or are...

Armature Question by
www.hussydesigns.com
It's been years since I've done any work with a kiln and I've never
had my own but I recently purchased one (and am I the only freak who
actually names their kiln?) and I'm wondering if I'm recalling
correctly that aluminum soda cans can be used as an armature for
large-ish hollow pieces? Can...

Paper armature? by
Sam
I want to make a little peice by making a cone of paper and painting slip on
it. Of course, it cracks while drying. I am trying drying it very slowly,
but is there anything else I should try? I can't make it with a roll or cone
of clay because of where it is. TIA

Question from a Non-Maker of ceramics by
Frankie
Hello,everyone -
I have a question that is probably very simple for those who make
ceramics, but is quite a puzzle for the non-initiated who only
collect. It has to do with the presence of a hole in the bottom of
some turn of the century items that are variously identified as either
"hatpins...

copper and come 6 by

Has anyone ever fired a piece wrapped in thin copper tubing at cone 6? My
kiln's electric, by the way. I'm curious what it might look like, if it would
even work at all. Thanks, Gaye

Easy Projects by
Mpchet
Hi,
I teach mentally disfunctional adult students for 1 hr each week. We've done a
lot of slab and pinched pieces and I'm just wondering if anyone has any really
great, easy projects that they might be willing to share. I'm kind of getting
burned out and need some new fresh ideas.
As far as...

Drying question by
Hello - I'm sure this question's been asked a billion times on this
newsgroup, but I just blew up half my kiln-load of Christmas presents and am
in a bit of a bind. I'm guessing a couple large (14") bowls still had some
moisture in the bases. So, with ten days left, any suggestions on how...

should i buy a kiln? by
Beowulf
I have been considering buying a kiln, looking at an Olympic gas kiln;
when I add up all the stuff needed, the $650 (discounted) kiln starts
adding up to $1300-$1400 when pricing in the costs of gloves, pyrometer,
temperature probe, kiln furniture, cones, thermocouple safety shutoff and
firing...

Air Bubbles by

Can air bubbles develop after firing? I have a couple pieces that I
would swear didn't have air bubbles when I pulled them out of the
glost firing but now have air bubbles. Will the air bubbles affect
the strength of the piece?

ceramic bowls 'expiring' by
Kate
I have a set of 3 hand thrown red clay bowls made in 1983 that all
chipped badly within a month of each other just now. Do ceramic
vessels 'expire' or go bad somehow after a while? I used the bowls
every day for 20 years and certainly got my use out of them, but I was
puzzled that they all...
