What to charge for making a quilt? by
Eli
Hi: I'm an experienced quiltmaker, who up until now has only made
quilts for my family and friends. Well an acquaintance wants me to make
her a rather large 73x73 quilt. I'm not sure what to charge this person
and have no idea what the going rate per hour is. I told her that she
would need to pay...

The insanity has begun...intervention needed by
off kilter quilter
This isn't off topic because, though I was awake at 4am (stomach was
hurting and sinuses going crazy), and went out to hit the post-Christmas
sales, I *never* even got CLOSE to a fabric store (unless you count the
piddly department at Walmart).
Yep, I was one of the masses...but you know what, it...

After 5 years out of employment circus and 25 years out of my preferred
field (Library), I have just sent in my application for a dream job.
Previously I have worked in Medical and Hospital Libraries; this job is
in a Law Library -- but in a firm that specializes in Biomedical

OT have no bananas? by
Polly Esther
I had to bake a banana nut bread this week in a terrible hurry. Through the
years, I have baked hundreds of that ultimate comfort food. I realized
that this one was the best one ever. There was no such thing as bananas
that were 'just right' so I substituted a cup of baby food bananas. ...

Question to wash or not to wash by
Barbara Sherrill
I would like to know how everyone feels about this subject. Not sure when it
was last visited.
Do you wash or not to wash your fabric before quilting?

I'm so excited! by
Louise
Well, now that it's a reality, I can share my good news! As of this
afternoon, I'll be the proud owner of a long-arm quilting machine. I got the
call this morning that they'll be here about 4 p.m. to set it up and teach
me how to use it. I'm so excited, I can hardly stand it! I took the...

Is your Sewing Space "put together"? by
Kate G.
Mine isn't... but I want it to be!
So let's share! I'd love to see pictures of your sewing spaces... so please attach a link.
Or tell me what works? My room isn't particularly large (12 x 13 thereabouts) with really only 2
walls. The other two a Closet and room entry door; floor to...

ON topic-- How does a wheat field become a thatched roof? by

When you turn it upside down, of course!

Here's where buying fabric indiscriminately is real handy.... I
didn't think I'd ever make a quilt with a wheat field... who knew? ;-)
(Go away, beggers. This block is going to a dear friend. Those...

Color Theory: Starting/Maintaining a Stash by
Dannielle
Ok, this one has been on my brain for awhile and I thought it might
help some of the newer quilters. Heck, might be a refresher for some
more experienced quilters as well.
I know I don't have much space for fabric, so I only buy the fabric
needed for a particular project as I need it. Granted...

OT - a fragile stability achieved by
Queen of Squishies
We have been at the clinic or the hospital 4 days out of 5 this week. DH's
labs are finally stabilized, the swelling has stopped getting bigger, and I
think they have achieved the right combination of meds. now. Bob and I both
slept a lot last night, which says something in itself.
In looking...

malicious people on the QFM ng by
SNIGDIBBLY
I have just had the most awful experience with a person who posts things for
sale on QFM. She listed a bunch of quilting related books for sale but said
she wanted to charge $2.50 per book to ship them. Well I've done a lot of
shipping and I know that media mail is only $1.42 for up to a pound...

Help with scrap pattern and how to?? by
Joanna
I'm looking for a pattern where it's printed on a piece of paper and you
sew your pieces on top. Does that even make sense. I think it's paper
piecing.
I'm actually looking for the instructions as well. I had them book
marked and then my computer crashed.
I want to do this with...

OT Kinda OT anyway - about quilting software EQ and Quilt Pro by
Cheryl
I have been emailing with a few users of EQ from rctq. How many out there
have this software? Or the Quilt Pro program? Or anything like it? No one
has been able to tell me so far.
Just interested to see if there are enough "virtual quitlers" out there to
organise a "virtual swap". Anyone...

Well, exactly like the subject line says --
What is your favorite color to put in a quilt?

a quilt for mine and David's bed -- I frequently refer to it as our
wedding quilt because it will have bits of fabric in it from...

speechless. Tears and laughter all around. Becca is about 7 weeks along and
feeling fine. The baby is due around June 3. DS's birthday is June 6....

Chasing the foot control by
fixedgearhead
I got tired of chasing my foot control around the rug while sewing. I
have tried mouse mads and other things to no avail. I had some rubber
under carpet stuff that we use under some oriental carpets to keep them
from slipping. It is thin and rubbery and works well for the carpets so
I thought it...
