What are the largest pots you've thrown? by
sam
My largest pot was a bowl I threw about two weeks ago. I started off
with 25lbs of clay, centered it and in the end I had a bowl with a
diameter of 20.5in and a heigth of about 11in. When the bowl was ready
leather-hard I ended up trimming 8.5lbs of clay from it, which made me
realize I probably...

Weird lip when pulling up by
Bubbles
Hi folks :-)
Being just a beginner when it comes to turning, I need to get rid of bad
habits before they lock on. One that I have notice now is that I somehow
pull some of the clay too far up, so that I get an extra loose lip at the
top. My only guess is that I was turning with long fingernails -...

Wedged clay - ready-made balls for the wheel? by
Bubbles
Hi again!
Full of questions, I am - and you guys are so great about offering your
advice!
So - today I wedged my recycled clay. Probably should have done it
yesterday, but didn't get time/energy.
While wedging, I thought, gosh - why put it into one huge lump? Why not make
balls ready for when I...

Where is the "webmaster" when all of this non-pottery garbage is posted? I see
this has turned into a porno site, and the potters are gone. It makes me sad.

WD40 by
DKat
I remember a discussion on what to use in place of WD40 (as a lubricant for
motor and mechanical parts not for mold release) and I can't fine it in a
search. Does anyone remember this? Donna

Waterproofing and Frostproofing Clay Pots by
Bill H
Hello
I have some clay pots that I have brought back from Africa, they are clay
that has been fired in a kiln but not glazed.
The clay after firing is a terrcotta colour.
I need to protect them from the UK elements, rain and frost, no room
indoors!
Someone suggested painting them with PVA glue...

watering dry clay by
Wes
Pardon my ignorance but I bought some fire clay and it is in dry powdered
form. Do I just add water and start stirring? Any idea of weight of water
to weight of clay? My application is to seal a metal box that will be used
for case hardening in order to keep air out.
Thanks in advance,
Wes

water proof by

OK guys, if you buy or sell a plant container with a base tray do you think
it should be water proof?
We bought a living christmas tree and I got a nice pot (no time to make one
myself) from the pot warehouse and planted our little tree in it.
Moved it outside today and the tray has leaked and the...
