Ready made curtains: creases due to packaging by
[email protected]
Every time I buy ready-made curtains they come out of the pack with
deep creases on them, where the curtain has been folded. I invariably
have to spend a lot of time ironing them to get the unsightly
Last night it took me 2hrs to iron a pair of 66inch x 72 inch drop
polycotton curtains, using an...

Question about Old Viking Sewing Machine by
flan
I recv'd an old Viking machine(from someone who knows nothing about
sewing machines) which appears to sew just fine except for the huge (3
rows of 15 settings/bs LCR Manual) red selection stitch/embroidery?
knob which will not turn and will only allow normal stitch and zig
zag. I've tried to search...

why turn clothes inside out for washing by
Alan Horowitz
I first observed people doing this when washing clothes by hand, in
the Philippines. I presumed it was a local folkloric nonsense.
Just recently, I noticed that the fine print of the Care Label of my
jeans, includes a instruction to turn inside out before washing.
What is the reason for it?

permanent crease in knit collars by
Rudy
Why do all my knit cotton collars develop a permanant crease in them
after a few washings? It sure is annoying as most of the time I look
like a slept in the shirt, anything that can be done to remove it, I
try ironing but these are in permanantly. Seems to happen to every
name brand I...

Compact sewing machine suggestion by
Melinda Meahan - take out TRASH to reply
I am trying to figure out what kind of compact-sized sewing machine to
send my daughter at college and thought I would take suggestions here.
I doubt she is going to be doing a lot of sewing over there, but she
does split seams, rip pockets, and tear out hems a lot, and she might
sew a skirt or two...

Pre-Quilted Doubled Faced Fabric by
sewirish1969
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a place on-line that sold
pre-quilted doubled faced fabric. Similar to the fabric used in the
"Vera Bradley" bags.
Thanks in advance!

9/11, sewing, and off topic thoughts by
Tom Farrell
And so another 9/11 has come and gone.
9/11/2001 began in confusion for me. I was recently unemployed, had
been up late, and overslept. I was awakened by my neighbor knocking on
my door. I grabbed my keys and stumbled blearily to the door, where he
told me two jetliners had flown into the World...

Anyone have a source for men's thimbles? by
BEI Design
I've googled, but everything I have found so far has been in women's sizes
S-M-L or 0 up to 7. I have large hands and I wear a 7, it would be too
small for my new SIL, who wants a large man's thimble, I'd like to find him
both a metal and a leather one.
Anyone???
TIA,

Tape for keeping skirts and pants from slipping down? by

They used to have a tape that had a rubber stitched face which was sewed or
glued to the inside waistband of skirts and pants to keep them from slipping
down. It was not the kind of elastic tape that stretches.
Would anyone know what that tape was called and where I could get some,
perhaps...

where I can get some type of guide for my Brother that is not
