interesting sleeve treatment by
Marilyn
I make a fair amount of the clothes my girls wear. I try to look at
what is popular, sort out what I like and think is appropriate and do
similar things with the clothes I make for them. I bought a ready wear
shirt for my daughter this weekend by Ecko Red. I would like to copy
the technique they...

Seeking Tailor for Norfolk Coat by
Kevin
I am desperately looking for a good tailor, ideally near or in New
York City, who would be willing to work with me and my ideas to make a
norfolk style jacket with material I will provide. While I am happy
to pay a fair price for this work, fashion design is something of a
hobbie of mine and I am...

Alterations and Labor Day Goodies by
[email protected]
I was out on Wed., picking up some repair materials for my Mum's
clothes which she left with me. Nice lined wool slacks and a skirt, a
former purchase; the pants lack slightly over 10 inches meeting in the
front, just over her belly. Every where else, they fit fine. The
protruding stomach is the...

help - pattern for floor length formal dress with short sleeves by
AnnP
Hi,
My daughter's high school band has decided that all the girls need to
wear black floor length gowns for their concerts -- short sleeves,
midway between shoulder and elbow. The neckline also must be discreet
(not plunging). (The boys get off easy by paying $50 to rent tuxes for
the year.)
I...

Question: sewing chiffon problem by
[email protected]
I've been trying to sew chiffon and am having a problem with the fabric
being pulled to the left. It seems that the thread pulls it that way,
but it could be the feed dog. This is especially a problem in sewing a
baby hem at the corners, since there is nothing to hold onto in back.
Can anyone...

keyhole buttonholes by
Liz
My husband offered to buy me a sewing machine for christmas, and we went
looking at them on the weekend. We ended up buying one because it was on
special -- a Husqvarna Viking Lily. Took it home and played with it; it took
a bit of getting used to, with quite a different way of threading...

Pinking Shears by
[email protected]
I have two pair of pinking shears that are probably 40 - 50 years old.
They are Wiss brand and in very good condition. However, they need
sharpened and I do not know where to get that done. Also, I have no
idea of the value of these shears in case the sharpener would damage
them. Any information...

Pricing? by
Carey1003
When you sew for others how do you figure out pricing? Do I charge an hourly
rate? Do I charge differently for children and adults, plain vs. fancy? How
do you figure costs if they furnish all the materials? Do you add your
shopping time to the hourly rate if you have to do all the shopping or...

De-lurking to ask for a bit of advice. by
Jolynne
Hi all! I usually just read this group for info, but I have a question
this time.
Is %600.00 for a rarely used Husqvarna Viking Huskylock 1001L Serger a
reasonable price? I've been researching sergers with the intent to buy
and I've come across this used one. I know I like Viking machines, so
that...
