jewelry cleaners by
Triple
Does anyone have any experience with ultrasonic jewelry cleaners that just
use tap water? I'd love to be good the environment and not use chemicals if
I can. But I don't want to buy something that doesn't work and end up
tossing into a landfill. Any advice would be appreciated.

Newbie request for advice by
Tasha
I was asked by a friend to try to produce a ring for a costume she's
working on from an animation series called Utena - it's a sort of
silver and pink seal ring.
I managed to turn out a version I'm quite pleased with by cutting the
top off a domed silver ring and filling the hole with pink Fimo,...

Hallmark 297 by
Peter
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but maybe someone can help me
anyway.
My friend has a ring with the number 297 engraved on the inside. Is this a
Hallmark stating the percentage of gold? If so what does it mean? If not
then what does it signify?
Thank you
Peter

a problem with soldering... and a torch question. by
Des Bromilow
Yesterday i was asked to solder closed the decorative "jump ring" on a
silver pendant. It was pretty daunting because the owner told me how much
the pendant was worth before I started work on it, but I got through anyway.
I cut up a potato and embedded the pendant in the potato to protect...

Welcome to the Dota 2 blog by
peoey184
Lots of people have tried to assign various genre names to Dota, but we think Action RTS is probably the most descriptive. And while we don’t spend a lot of time trying to figure out what genre the game is inventing, we can’t stop playing it internally and we’re pretty excited to...

Wax Carving by
Charlie
I've got an idea in my head for a set of pendants. They're carved from wax
with raised details such as dots and squiggles - think lampwork beads.
Firstly, is there any difference between green, blue and pink wax? Except,
obviously the colour. Secondly, can I make a base sphere and then melt...

"created diamond" by
Lawrence
Out of all the diamond simulants out there....is there a "best kind/type"?
As has been pointed out, "created diamond" would suggest a true synthetic, which
is actually diamond, just man made. These, of course are best in terms of
duplicating the properties and appearance of natural diamonds. ...

Chipped Stone by
[email protected]
Hi,
A few months ago I set a lab-grown sapphire into a sterling silver
Comfort-Fit ring for my son's girlfriend, who gave it to her mother
for Christmas. Her mother wore it daily but it now has a small chip in
the side. (You can't really notice it from the top) There's also a
small scratch on the...

Hello all,
I would like to carve a simple Swan Cameo for my wife, but am having trouble
locating cameo blanks in either Agate or Shell. I don't have a lapidary
setup, so making my own isn't really an option. And the need for carving my
own is I can't locate a source for a large Swan Cameo. Say...

Who has the right to know? by

I woke this morning with the above title in my head.
So I asked myself the question?
why is it that this trade is accused of being reluctant to divulge its
knowhow? particularly on this newsgroup
and I include myself in this when other skills like those recently
mentioned here, for example beer,...

black hills gold jewelry by

I found this post and feel it needs to be corrected on one point.
According to federal law, to be marketed as Black Hills Gold the item
MUST be manufactured in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The point was
settled in court when Coleman Corp. started manufacturing jewelry in
Arizona and began...

Hinges, Silver by

Anyone know where to find silver hinges suitable for small jewelry boxes?
Would prefer to buy "off the shelf" from someone who supplies them on a
regular basis and has made lots of them. (A silversmith told me they are
a PITA to make and take practice -- for whatever it's worth..)
I want to use...
