I'm having some white areas developing at the edges of a float slump. The
white only shows at certain angles to a light source. Single thickness,
1200deg, at 400/hr, hold 20min. Slumping into a plaster mold
Is this tin bloom?
Any sujestions?

heated glass by
Ed Angell
I need to make a heated (150 degrees F.) glass platen to use for blending
encaustic wax medium. The size if 20" X 24" and the glass could be from
1/4" - 1/2" thick and is supported fully from the underneath side. I've
tried to do this with hot air guns and heating lamps and busted the glass

Bending Plate Glass by
Mark Jones
Hi, weird question, can plate glass be bent slighly without a furnace?
I'm wondering about putting a slight (0.1=B0 or so) bend into the=20
centers of two pieces of 1/4" thick, 12" square plate glass. This is=20
so that the two could be pressed bowed-sides together and have a=20
slight pressure...

Foulmouthed Craftweb rant by
David W
There is another message board, Craftweb, where I had a recent dispute
with the moderator. The moderator posted some accusations and then
didn't allow me to respond. If anyone has been in that position, you
know how frustrating that is. In fact, he reffered to this as, "a foul
mouthed rant". I...

Making telescope mirrors by
Wally
I just ran across mention of a website in rec.crafts.metalworking and
thought someone here might enjoy looking at it. Here's a guy making
his own telescope, grinding the mirrors with a homemade machine made
of an old boat winch. The website is http://lerch.no-ip.com/atm/
Pretty amazing. The...

Measuring how to anneal glass. by
Ian Stirling
If I've got a bit of glass, and a scrap of the same glass, can I tell
by measuring the viscosity (say how much it drapes over a form in
a few minutes) at a given temperature how much cooler it needs to be
to anneal?

Hello gentle alt.music.replacements readers...
I found out this week that they declined my motion to dismiss. Yes -
even though I am not a citizen of New Hampshire, and I have never been

Compressor & cold weather question by
WillMore
Since I cannot get the compressor downstairs for my sandblaster, I would
like to put it in the garage & run the hose inside.
Our winters can get pretty cold - perhaps -32 C or F.
Would this damage the compressor? Would it run?
The oil part is on top of the tank. I was going to insulate it to...
