Setting Stones to jewelry by
Ganesh
There are various methods of setting a stone to a ring or other
ornaments.
E.g. In case of Prong setting there's very little metal that holds the
stone.
Advantage:- the stone is completely exposed.
Disadvantage:- the thin metal holdings eventually loosens often
letting the stone fall, or they...

Thank you the jewelry group by
Jessica
I joined this group a few month ago. At that time I was new to DIY
jewelry making and looking for help. I got plenty good advice from the
group members. Now I'm doing well.
I want to thank the members of this group.
I do have a question for the group: lately there are fewer and fewer
posts on...

graver sharpening by
Ted Callier
I am trying to learn hand engraving on my own, with the help of two
books (Hardy/Bowman and Meeks). And watching videos on Youtube. These
are a great help to visualise the process of engraving. Thing is, I
just can't seem to find any instructional videos for sharpening
gravers. All I could find is...

How to disinfect a yellow gold diamond ring I inherited by
Suzie
Hi everyone
I inherited a beautiful diamond ring from my mother last year who
passed away from various things. However the one thing that really
worries me is the MRSA staph infection she had at time of her
passing. She wore the ring right up to the time of her death.
Can anyone tell me how to...

Polishing compound question by
Andrew Falanga
Hi,
Wow, has it been a long time since I've posted to this NG. My wife
and I are currently cutting a few topaz stones for a client and these
topaz are unlike anything we've ever seen. They are taking a polish
in a most difficult manner and this is forcing us to consider some
alternative...

New Project by
Jack Schmidling
It's a lot easier to talk about a new project than to actually get
started. However, talking about it can provide the motivation to
actually get started. Sort of putting my money where my mouth is.
I never got any farther with my wine glass than the 3 oz martini glass.
The challenges of a...

Nice surprise! by
Jack Schmidling
I was so excited when I finally got broad band access that I never even
bothered asking the ISP if USENET was available.
This is so much nicer that the web based Googling.
The tines on the fork that I heated in my last report are still clean.

Bead Stringing Tute?? by
Junie
Hi Everyone!
-
I've been making beaded eyeglass chains and am having trouble fastening
the end of the nylon coated stainless steel wire so that it will hold
tightly. I've crimped it but it doesn't seem to hold. It eventually
pulls out of the crimp leaving part of the wire showing.

Is there...

seal watch parts into jewelry by
Ben[_3_]
I'm experimenting with 'steampunk' look jewelry and wanted to create a
design on a 316 steel pendant or ring. After I set the tiny
pocke****ch parts in place, what do you recommend to clear seal and
protect them? I thought about epoxy, but what about marine varnish or
wood floor sealer. Obviously,...

Here's a long-shot
Despite months of searching, even at the Cyma website, I have not been able
to find information about my watch. It's a CYMA Rubisaphir, gold, onyx and

I've put it up for auction on ebay for a fraction of it's value in the hope
