Tambour beading by
Daisy
I am seeking a tambour shuttle (aka tambour hook) - can someone on
this group direct me to a mail-order source that ships internationally
please?
I am also trying to obtain a book with specific tambour beading work
as part of its contacts.
I'd be grateful for any help.
Cheers

Decorating designs for clothes by
Daisy
I have a reasonably large stock of beads and sequins. I want to
design a motif for a stretch knit top using sequins and seed beads.
Can someone direct me to a book (or website) that could give me the
method for this please? For instance, should I draw the design on
that press-on rip-off craft...

gold modelling compound by
puk
Hi group,
I'm sure I read somewhere about a compound made from gold powder and
(perhaps) wax, that could be modelled by hand into shape and then
fired/heated to produce a solid (or alloy) gold item. I seem to recall it
was of eastern origin, perhaps Chinese?
Was I dreaming? :-) If not, I'd...

Alcohol lamp and blow pipe by
Carl West
I want to try the alcohol lamp and blow pipe for soldering gold and/or
silver. Can someone please point me to a picture/description of the
equipment and technique? The hits I got with Google didn't help.

English hallmarks by
Tobor
I have recently become interested in collecting 9ct gold charms that
bear an English (or UK) hallmark. Problem is many items described as
hallmarked are just stamped "9ct" or "375", with no maker or assay
office mark present. Would I be right in thinking that these items
were not stamped by the...

[ADVERT] FS: Lapidary Journal OOP mags by
Karleen/Vibrant Jewels
Hope this post isn't out of order, if it is I apologize in advance.
This week, in addition to beads and kits, we are offering several Out of
Print Lapidary Journals for auction. I tried to make the descriptions as
full as possible, as hubby did not feel like doing scans today. Perhaps he
will...

Mokume Gane materials question by
Greyangel
Hi all! I'm new here. I want to make some Mokume Gane for a project I'm
working on right now and was thinking of using copper and stirling silver.
Is this a workable combination? I read somthing that said annealing
stirling silver too many times will cause it to get brittle through alloy
losses?...

Who has the right to know? by
Ted Frater
I woke this morning with the above title in my head.
So I asked myself the question?
why is it that this trade is accused of being reluctant to divulge its
knowhow? particularly on this newsgroup
and I include myself in this when other skills like those recently
mentioned here, for example beer,...

newbie question by
Harlett O'Dowd
I've been doing some 1920s research and came across a mention of a piece of
jewely called a "love altar." I assume this is some kind of necklace. Does
anyone here have more information on what this may or may not be? Are there
any books out there with pictures where I could get a better idea...

Eurika Moment by
Jack Schmidling
Maybe "duh" is a more appropriate subject.
I started on another chain after making some mods to my homemade rolling
mill and found that changing the sequence made things a lot easier.
I had been rolling the wire, soldering jump rings, pickling, tumbling,
stretching into loops and weaving...

specific finish questions by
m4816k
I saw a finish that seems really nice, but don't know much about it, so
would have some questions. Some call it diamond cut finish, some laser cut
finish, diamond laser, double diamond cut, textured diamond cut... It's that
rough, sparkling, textured finish that's (I think) done by hammering...

I found a website that sells swarvorstika crystals at a really good price.
Yet, I am hesitant to order because they don't list where they are located

order (and ask for the bead guy)
What do you think about placing an order...

Pyramid Bead Cap by
Charlie
I've got these beautiful lampwork beads sitting here, but the only problem
is they're cubes. I thought it would be quite cool to wire them with a cap
above and below except for the obvious problem that they're square, and not
the more usual round.
so I think to myself I'll make them, then they'll...
