Glue sticking to earring. Help by
msuryadarma
My wife accidentally dripped some power glue to her earring, on the
stalk part, where the other part comes in to attach it to her ear (I
know it sounds complicated, but I don't know how to call it). Is there
any solution that can clean the glue off the earring? Any tip is
greatly appreciated. Thank...

purpose of bail on gold jewelry by
E. Sandstrom
X-No-archive: yes
Sorry if this sounds a bit like a stupid question, but what is the purpose
of the bail (sp?) attached to the clasp on gold bracelets and necklaces? And
do all gold bracelets/necklaces have them? What about silver
bracelets/necklaces, I have never seen one with a bail, but do some...

Gold stamp query by
David Griffiths
I have a ring with 14KP stamped inside it. Does this mean it's 14Karat
plated rather than solid gold?
Also, what does the copyright sign mean when it's stamped inside a ring - is
it signifying cubic zirconia rather than diamonds as the "diamond" gems?

store that sells rhinestone set in silver??????? by
JMilano
I am not even sure if rhinestones are what you would call them, but I
see jewelry sold everywhere with links or "beads" that are silver and
have colored rhinestones in them. (Not rondells) Many necklaces have
charms/pendants made this way, but I am looking for something that can
be strung...

HOW MUCH DO RUBIES AND EMERALDS COST PER CARAT? by
wyatt wyatt
p.s. is there an organization or place that
keeps an 'official' (more or less) price of
such precious stones such as emeralds and rubies?
For the stock market, we have the Dow jones average,
but what about precious stones?
Thanks.

WHY ARE UNCUT EMERALDS WORTHLESS?? by
wyatt wyatt
I know very little about gems, but
I always thought emeralds, rubies etc.
were regarded as precious stones and
quite valuable. Then I see online where
people will sell emeralds, rubies etc.
for a few dollars each. They say these are
from mines and "uncut". What am I missing
here? Does it cost a lot...

stones set in silver by
m4816k
Many friends told me that they've bought some silver pendants and rings with
stones, but that stones fell out of the settings not long after the pieces
have been bought. Is that result of bad workmanship or is just silver too
light and/or fragile to hold stones securly in place for a long time?...

Pricing a wire wrap gold/amethyst ring by
Jim Caldwell
I am making some wire-wrap rings to sell at craft shows. My cost breaks down
like this: 3 dollars for the 14KT square gold-filled wire, 25.00 for the
AAA grade Amethyst 18x13 oval cut stone. I think I paid about 5.00 shipping,
so that is abt $33 total cost. Later on, if I can start buying in qty,...

Scrap gold by
Andy Parker
I have just been given several ounces (nice!) of gold from a 'vapour
deposition' system used in a university geology lab. I have no idea if
this is pure or what - any suggestions apart from chucking it in my
next refining batch (that could be quite a while). This gold has not
been deposited, I get...

What is a good way of taking jewelry pictures with a digital camera? I can't
seem to get them "nice" enough. I am really picky :o)
My apartment has very bad light so I have been taking the pieces outside and
photographing them on a white sheet of paper. It works better than my older
pictures, which...

Plating over real leaves by
Peggy
Some years ago my mother purchased a leaf-shaped pin at a local craft fair.
She doesn't know what the metal is (looks like oxidized copper to me), but
she remembers that it was sold as a real leaf which was metal plated.
The pin is a small ivy leaf and is beautiful! Any ideas of what this...

Dale Nichols, Wire Work Class? by
Jewitch
A LBS is advertising a Wire Working class with Dale Nichols for this
week-end. The class assumes a knowledge of the basics, but will do a
quick review. The project will be a pendant. The cost is $50 for four
hours.
I confess I am not familiar with Dale Nichols. Can anyone comment?
Thanks,
Jewitch
