Believe it or not this is on topic!!!
Does anyone know what needlework is appropriate from this era--1790-1820 or
so-- ?
I am doing the living room in my new home in Federal.Sheraton/Hepplewhite
furniture --already ordered from Southwood who does reproduction work-- and
want to add needlework...

silks by
BDS2pds
I am going to love working with these once again. The uses I have had for
silks previously were tent stitch but using them so freeling in crewel work is
going to be fun fun fun. They were rather surprising. 60 of them fit into a
pretty tiny bag.

silk painting by
BDS2pds
After doing several days research, closely examining the original silk
paintings saved by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller in Colonial Williamsburg here,
getting the floor frame ready and the silks divided, I am plying needle to the
linen seedcloth today. You know how that first stitch is scary!

working with silks by

Hints for stitching with silk--When working with silk, you can use the
following hints to help avoid possible fuzziness.
Start with shorter lengths.
Pull the thread straight up and down through the canvas.
Cover the area you are not stitching. Use tissue paper tacked on.
When you roll the piece...

silks by

Someone , I think it was Dianne?, mentioned that working with silks will
definitely get fuzzy. Now I am wondering because I have not had that problem
yet and wondering if which end of the strand you pull from might aid in keeping
the silk less fuzzy. Any comments from you experts? Does stranded...

Federal era by

Any suggestions past our previous discussions on what might be sitting in a
proper library during that era of 1780-1820? I have the room done now and all
furnishings but could use a touch here and there . I am creating a silk
painting for one spot. Any other ideas for pondering? Such expertise...

her taste as she had it turned inside out on her quilt stand. I saw it when

Rug tapestries by
BDS2pds
Rugs were made as well, though the fact that they exist in good to excellent
condition shows that they were NOT to be walked on, but admired, at least from
the edges!
I found this while researching this morning on white-works.com and I surely do
agree and also the rest of you who have worked on...

Thanks so much for the white-works . It is helpful more than anything I have
found thus far. Thanks again.

Where is a good place online to buy these? I drove all over here and none to
be found. I need to do it online for all the Christmas projects. I sure do
like JHB buttons if anyone especially knows where online to find those. Thanx!
