flying geese units by Martha[_6_]
I'm trying to make flying geese for the border of a quilt, but the directions with the quilt , leave the two tips along the broad side of the geese part going right out to the edge, so those tips will be cut off when I sew the long seams of the border. I've looked at other methods, but they...

Prayers needed by GrammyKathy[_3_]
Today our wonderful List Mom, Mary K Tucker, on Beginner's and Beyonder's to rest. I so wish I could have been there, but it was impossible. She was a friend, teacher, comforter, chewed us out when we were bad, and loved us unconditionally. Gee that sounds like a MOM don't it. That is was she was...

OT product review leaf blower/vac by Leslie & The Furbabies in MO.
First, some background so you'll know what I'm happy dancing! I live alone in a 90 y.o. house and an old house means BIG mature trees and LOTS of leaves to deal with every autumn. I'm on disability for severe arthritis and several other little 'challenges', so raking leaves and disposing of...

Question for those who don't pre-wash by Susan Laity Price
I am arranging a block swap at our local store. I know there are two very divided camps of pre-wash/non pre-wash but want both groups to be a part of the swap. How about if the instructions said "Fabric must be pre-washed or heavily steamed". Would you non pre-washers understand what I mean...

A fun quilty day by AuntK
I heard on the news last week about a new-to-me LQS not too far away. Checked out their website and newsletter and just had to go. Today two of my quilting friends and myself headed off to Olde City Quilts in Burlington, NJ. About a 40 minute ride for us. The shop was everything the newsletter...

help with a sashing by idahoqltr
I have all these beautiful triangles leftover from the scrap quilt I am making that I would like to use in a narrow sashing. Does anyone know a fairly simple plan to make a sashing similar to a flying geese or seminole pattern? I want the background to be black with the colored triangles running...

Deflating batting, anyone? by Sartorresartus
So. Against my better judgement, I decided to make up one of those advent calendar cheater panels. I've tried one before and it got tossed, but his one was going to be different. Right, then! All went well till the batting stage, and I bethought myslef that it didn't want much in the way of...

Oops! by Linda[_4_]
Tonight I got out a quilt top I completed a few months ago and wanted to decide how to quilt it. I spread it out on the bed, and realized I have one block sewn the wrong way. It needs to be turned a quarter turn. I can't believe I had not noticed that before. Is there anything I need to be aware...

Pine Tree Block Comparison by Bev in TX
The pine tree blocks viewable at the following URL are essential the same -- or are they? http://picasaweb.google.com/countryone77/WildernessPaths#5536801351023290514 or http://tinyurl.com/295tgj5 The one on the left has fewer fabric pieces, which would make for easier construction. ...

Ironic but good-On Topic by Steven Cook
Setting the scene. The middle of Yearbook class with 28 students asking questions, uploading photos, checking out cameras, selling ads, entering sales, layout and color and design decisions. In other words, controlled chaos. But good at that as we approach our first deadline of 48 pages. In...

mixing prewashed and non-washed fabrics by Hanne[_2_]
I'm about to embark on a Christmas stack-and-whack something (table runner, probably). I have plenty of repeats of the feature fabric, but only because I had my Aunt share it lengthwise with me! So, I don't want to wash it, because I think the long cut edge might stretch a lot and end...
