Plating -- Caswell vs. Rio Grande vs. ??? by
Bert
I want to do a little pen or brush plating so I'm shopping around for
equipment and plating solutions. Has anyone here used Caswell Plating
products and/or the Rio Grande Midas line of products and/or products
from other US suppliers? I would be interested in critiques,
comparisons, or evaluations...

Nope. Got stuck at #30, due to lack of interest of the buying public.
Everybody loves the series and idea behind it.
In the video, _you_ sounded excited about the series.

cleaning jewellery by
Kendall Davies
Do I need to clean my silver jewellery with an ultrasonic cleaner or
similar?
I pickle, rinse, polish with a buffing wheel and hand polish with a cloth.
Is this enough/safe and if not why not?
Finally any suggestions about what to purchase. Cost is a consideration but
I would rather get something...

accuracy of scales by

Hi there,
I'm looking at buying a small electronic scale that can
accurately measure gemstones down to an accuracy of 1 tenth of a carat.
There are a number of them available on Ebay, but I'm just not sure how
much I can believe the write-ups on their stated level of accuracy.
Here's an...

metal punches by
Linda Kelly
I've been wanting to make some silver discs with some printed words on them
(peace, etc.) but I'm not sure which metal stamps to buy. They range
anywhere from $16.00 a set to $300.00 a set. Anyone know of a good company
to buy from?
Thanks

break a diamond when setting it by
NMarshall
I recently set a 1/2ct diamond in a 14KT White gold setting with 6 prongs.
When I was all done and I took it out of the ultrasonic cleaner I found that
there was a fracture or inclusion that was new that ran between prongs.
(Let's say prong#2 to prong#4). There was no significant inclusion in...

Rolling mill thread... a bit of confusion... by
Peter W.. Rowe,
Hi all.
If the recent batch of Ted Frater's posts seem out of sequence with the thread,
or slightly confused in sequence or something, the fault may be mine.
Ted finds that he has to post to the group by forwarding his messages via direct
email, rather than through the usual use of a news server....

Is it clarity? by

Could clarity be the reason that some gems are "more brilliant than they
should be"? What I mean is, when I look at (example;) aquamarine or topaz,
it seems that they have more brilliance that their RI should "produce". I
read somewhere that those stones are considered gems of...

Palladium-Alloys and Hypo-Allergenic by
Ravi Ramani
Hello,
Is Palladium Hypo-Allergenic?
As far as I know, it should be since it is alloyed with ruthenium or
with any other platinum family alloys.
Which is my next question, what exactly is it alloyed with? Also, how
difficult is it work with this metal? From a jeweler's point of view,
would you...
