Hardening Silver ?? by
youda
Being a real beginner I don't have a clue. Sometimes I have a question and
can't find the answer on the internet or in books. This is one of those
times. I've made a thin leaf from fine silver for a pendant. The problem
is that it is soft, easily bent. Is there some way to harden silver at...

Mapp Gas by
Elliot Rosewater
Anybody ever use that Mapp-Oxygen combo torch? I have always just used
propane with a fine point. Ive heard that Mapp gets very hot. Is it too
hot for fine work, like pure silver bezels, light guage wire etc?

Prongs..Question by
Marty
I am trying to describe the condition of a broken mounting for a
diamond. I know the item is referred to as prongs, but was wondering
if the pin or post that is attached to the shank has a separate name
(such as pin or post).
Can anybody help?
Thanks

Worshiping in the Template Temple by
Frosty
I'm trying to find a source for templates.
Either the aluminium type or (preferably) the green, clearish stuff.
I need 5 & 6 pointed stars, triangles, squares, etc. ranging from 1/4"
down as small as possible and hopefully with many sizes in between.
Help?

Alpaca Silver by
[email protected]
Greetings... I see a lot of Peruvian jewelry around made with "alpaca
silver". It claims to be an alloy of a few metals to include nickel.
It also claims not to tarnish.
Is this a good material? I wonder how many people are allergic to
nickel?
Thanks.

smelting difficulty by
Jon Elson
I'm having some difficulty smelting gold out of the precipitate from the
cyanide process from scrap gold. I first cook the filters down to ash
in a crucible with a propane torch. Then, I got some cupels to smelt
that ash. I do get gold out of it, but I also get a greenish-black
glassy substance...
