Vermont Quilt Festival (and house building) by
Betty Monahan
Well, I finally got all the prize winner photos up.
http://community.webshots.com/user/clooniff
It was a great show this year. I've been going for 17 years now (I think I
only missed one about ten years ago) and I really love it. The judging is
interesting because the quilts are not judged...

Money and/or quilts for Katrina by

International Quilt Festival plans to match quilters' money donations to the
Red Cross dollar for dollar. They are taking our word on trust when we tell
them how much we have donated. Go to

Happy Dance in CT by
Betty Monahan
Last winter my 5 year-old granddaughter stayed with us for a week. I took
her to the quilt shop to retrieve my sewing machine and she zoomed in on a
lovely oriental design. When asked by someone if she liked the fabric she
replied indignantly, "I don't wike it. I WUV it!" You can see the...

Does anybody know about this shop? by
Betty Monahan
I don't know about the online sstore you've had trouble with, but, as an
alternative source, if you are looking for some really beautiful
hand-painted batiks, try this site. The owner, Trish Hodge, gave a talk and
showed them to our guild a few months ago.

Hello all, my name is Betty. I am a retired Grandmother and an avid
quilter, and I am looking forward to talking to you all. I thought I
would share a funny video I received in email from my Daughter in law.
Hope you enjoy it as I did!

World's Biggest Quilt (or Hexagons Gone Wild!) by
Bev in TX
I vaguely remember someone mentioning this quilt, while it was still in
progress. It was completed in May, but this is the first time I ran
across the final info/pictures.
This one has several links (I don't know anything about this particular
website other than that it is part of the 10/2010...

OT - Wide Printer? by
Bev in TX
I already mentioned this in the "A truly horrifying idea" thread, but it
was not very visible there. I'm thinking of getting a wider printer for
PP'ing, so that I don't have to tape sheets of paper together for larger
patterns. That is, something that prints at least 11" wide, rather than...

Pine Tree Block Comparison by
Bev in TX
The pine tree blocks viewable at the following URL are essential the
same -- or are they?

or http://tinyurl.com/295tgj5
The one on the left has fewer fabric pieces, which would make for easier
construction. ...

OT - Patchwork Coverlet? by
Bev in TX
My DH has decided that he would like something a bit cooler than a
quilt, so I suggested a patchwork coverlet. It will be very simple
patchwork -- just 9" squares (9 rows by 9 columns) with a border. I've
never seen directions on how to make one of these, so I have a some
questions ...

Two-Tone Binding? by
Bev in TX
I'm contemplating using two-tone binding on the salvage quilt, on
which I am working. That is, I plan to have a blue/gray fabric show
in the binding on the front of the quilt and a yellow fabric show on
the back. I realize that the fabric strip for one side will be
narrower than for the other...

Faux Applique Book by

I happened across the book, "Faux Applique" by Helen Stubbings. Has
anyone tried this technique? Does this result in a quilt that can be
washed?

Oak Leaves by

I am in the process of making a few place mats using the American
Quilter's Society free Oak Leaf pattern, which can be found at:
http://www.americanquilter.com/publications/pattern_view.php?id=46
I completed the blocks, now I need to add borders and complete the
place mats.

[OT] Cluttered Sewing Area by
Bev in TX
My sewing room is a small bedroom that we use as a pantry and storage
room. My sewing machine table is tucked in along one wall. My
ironing board is on the other side of the room in front of the closet,
which I cannot use. I have a cutting table in the middle , which
leaves just a little room to...

Easy Pointed Dresden Plate Blocks by

I am working on a Dresden Plate block, which reminded me of the quick
method written by Debby Kratovil. Her article, which was in Quilt
Magazine, is posted at:

In that article she briefly mentions that you can draft your own

Partially OT - Eureka! by
Bev in TX
I did a fusible web applique project around 1.5 years ago, using
Steam-A-Seam 2. At that time I had quite a bit of problem with that
product, so I contacted the manufacturer, The Warm Company, to find out
what I was doing wrong. It turned out to be a problem with the product,
rather than me. ...
