fabric help by quilter
Last month while on vacation, I bought a very large bag of fabric odds and ends (for $5 at an LQS, woohooo). In the bag, I found a lot of fabric that felt different than the rest... bear with me, because I don't know much about thread count and fabric types, but it is like a very high thread count...

Retreat! by frood
As you all know (because you see and read *all* the messages), Pat and I were at a retreat together this past weekend. Her guild sponsored it, and she invited me and our friend Kathy Z. to come up for it. Kathy couldn't make it, so we just had to talk about her behind her back while there. I took...

Quilting silver fabric! by Kate Dicey
I have a costume project that needs quilted gauntlets, made of silver fabric. I'm wondering about a couple of points: 1: How in the name of glory to I mark the quilting pattern on this stuff? About the only thing that will mark it at all is biro and Pigma pen! I'd rather not mark it...

Great Tip for scraps by joysjane
Got this from block central yahoo group: Marilyn in Ontario Canada: I make a pillow case (almost any size) out of fabric that I don't really like anymore and use it to line a garbage can (wrong side in). Into this I deposit any little snips of fabric or thread and/or selvage strips. When full,...

Today's Simply Quilts... by Kate G.
I loved the look of the Tennessee Waltz quilt -- but evidentally Elenor Burns wanted to sell her ruler and her book. They didn't give you the measurements (nor are they on Alex's website) for the background size of the snowball block or the dimensions of you wanted to just draw a template and draw...

where can i buy cheap t-shirts in bulk (for African kids?) by Paul Turner
Hi there, I am looking for a place that sells very cheap kids t-shirts in bulk. Does anyone know anywhere? My girlfriend is currently living in Malawi teaching orphan kids who are in desperate need of clothing, mainly t-shirts. (her blog is www.carolinetredrea.co.uk if you want to check it out)

OT - Making curtains - need help by extremevalues
I am making my first real set of curtains. Can you tell me what are the advantages/disadvantages to lining them? Also, should I prewash the fabric prior to making them, or just make them a couple inches longer than I want them to be to make up for any shrinkage that may occur later when washing? ...

Want scraps? by Tricia
I have fabric scraps left over from my pineapple block I did last night in the two main colors and a little bit of the super dark from the corners. Most scrap pieces are not likely to do anyone any good unless they make minis and even then I'm not sure if they are big enough (never attempted or...

The HairyButt Gang's obedience instructor, Susan, is having a hot dog cook-out for the final dog class of the year on Halloween evening. There are only 2 or 3 adults in the class (I'm one of them) and about 8-10 4H kids from about ages 7 to 12. I need to make some healthy-type goodies for a relish...
