Best way to fill in a stairwell? by
Cathy Weeks
I officially decided to leave out the stairs in the cottage.
I bought newell posts, stair rail, and spindles to put a railing
around 3 sides of the stairwell opening, only to discover that because
of the slanted roof, the newell posts are too tall! The top of one of
the newell post rests against...

Wallpaper questions - which order for the walls? by
Cathy Weeks
I hung wallpaper in one of the rooms... looks great. I ended up
wallpapering to acid-free cardstock first, but a relatively thin
cardstock. I let it dry overnight, then wallpapered that to the walls.
The cardstock disguised my wiring sins beautifully, and added a bit
of stiffness to the paper so...

What glue to stick a floor down? by
Cathy Weeks
In the dollhouse, I plan to glue the floors down that have no
electrical under them, and use something like double-stick tape under
the ones that do have electrical.
What glue would I use for this? The flooring is a polyurethaned
coffee stirrer floor with a posterboard backing. So what's the...

Warped floor - how to flatten? by
Cathy Weeks
The first coffee stirrer floor is done. Stained, polyurethaned, etc.
Looks great. Only problem...it's fairly warped in places, despite
being flattened by books at various points, and the pushpins that held
it flat while being polyurethaned.
I thought about just weighing it down for a week or so,...

3.5 volt lighting - no transformer by
Bernie
I have some 3.5v lights that I want to put in a dolls house. I want to use
a battery and not a transformer as a power source as it will be played with
by some small children. The answer to this question might be obvious but I
am not sure what voltage of battery should I use - is it 3.5 volts...

Dear All
We have a new product called dry rub off decals which are completly
new to the UK market, They are like water-slip decals but you don't
need water to use them. You can decorate any surface and are great if
you use your computer to reproduce graphics or decorations for...

Wow....staining is kinda fun by
Cathy Weeks
I finished the first of the several floors I'm doing with coffee
stirrers, and after sanding it, I applied a cherry stain. It looks
really pretty, and the inevitable gaps have nearly disappeared... the
reddish brown stain matches the background paint I used, so the gaps
are much less noticible now...

Printing quilts onto material by
betsyb
I sangged a bunch of quilt photos off a newsgroup and thinking of printing
them onto material. I think in an old dollhouse they would look wonderful
all folded in piles.
Got the printer, got the pics but have no idea how.

Wallpapering directly to walls or to posterboard first? by
Cathy Weeks
I had an idea about wallpapering - it's going to be difficult working
in such enclosed spaces, (though the gable is done already - I did
that portion prior to assembly - I KNEW I'd never be able to get
inside there) and I was wondering how I was going to hide some of my
(ahem) messy electrical tape...

Nail holes in hardwood floors? by
Cathy Weeks
Ok... I started on one of the floors with the coffee stirrers. I read
somewhere that you should put two tiny indents at the end of each
board, so that the stain would darken them, and simulate nail holes.
However, I looked at my real hardwood floor, and it doesn't have them.
And the sheets of...

painting a paneled door neatly? by
Cathy Weeks
The cottage has a pre-assembled door, which in my opinion, is no
favor. It's got four panels on each side, that have already been glued
down (and tightly, so I can't pop them off). I painted around the
panels, but I have no idea how to get the edges of the panels painted
without ruining the...

More copper flashing questions by
Cathy Weeks
Would Victorians have used copper flashing around the base of a stone
chimney? Or would someone in the current times - if they had a
victorian cottage they were restoring - would they use copper flashing
around a stone chimney?
In my web research I've seen lots of photos of flashing around...

Kit or Homeade? by
Jennie
So I am curious, purchased kit or homeade project (with plans or without?)?
I have done both. I did a cheap Greenleaf kit, then built my current
project without plans (tough). I also built my daughter a 'barbie' scale
house that is too tall for her. It was fun and so much easier then the
little...
