Moda Layer Cake Wall Hanging by John
Here is the above mentioned, latest finished quilt. It is a 4' x 5' Wall Hanging. The genesis of this quilt started when I bought a Layer Cake pkg of reproduction fabrics from Moda, for cheap. This pkg sat around for a couple of months until I could figure out what to do with the 10" x 10" squares....

Quilt Show Opinions, Please?? by Sherry
Our little show at our Library is tomorrow. I took grandbaby-to-be's new quilt & entered it. Baby quilts are a separate division. I noticed the baby quilt that won last year was entered again. Is that usually done? It was crisp and pristine and obviously hadn't been used much, at all. I mean, I...

Old Blocks by Laura in Chesapeake, VA
My sister found some hand made star blocks among our aunt's belongings and they need to be put into a quilt. The background is a lightweight muslin type of fabric and I am wondering if I should sash them or just sew them together, and then put a couple of borders on the quilt. The stars appear to...

Message Problem by Alice in PA[_3_]
During the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that I'm receiving a lot of replies to messages. However, I've never received the original message. I can usually find the message with the replies, but it's annoying to read the answers first, then the questions. Anyone know what's going on? --...

OT Diet coke vs vitamins/prescriptions by Leslie& The Furbabies in MO.
This ng has an amazing amount of knowledge available and I haven't been successful in my internet searches for an answer, so I come to y'all- once again- for answers. A friend told me that any prescription medicines or vitamins that I take with a swig of my much-loved Diet Cherry Coke are a...

Are you smarter by Kate T.
than a second grader. Nope and I admit it. I was reading your tips on quilt labels and it reminded me of my great niece. I made her a quilt of her favorite colors. I did the usual label thing. I attached the label to the backing then machine quilted over the label. I thought what if the label...

To Wash, or Not -- Flannel? by Sherry
I'm attempting my first flannel quilt. I always wash regular fabric. I'm assuming that flannel is no different, but you know what happens when you assume something. Do you press it, the same as cotton? Steam, hot iron is okay? I thought about using the new bamboo blend for batting, the real thin...

Janome users by Denise in NH
Hi all, I have the Janome 6500 and love it. Yesterday while at the Lowell Quilt Festival in Massachusetts, the Janome dealer was selling a new gadget. It was a replacement bobbin case to be used specifically for FMQ. The tension is already adjusted for FMQ and it supposedly eliminates "eyelashes"...

A great quilting tip! by Kate in MI
In talking with someone at the show -- someone suggested something I'd never heard before.. but it makes such PERFECT sense. When you sew your label to the back of the quilt, you do it for a number of reasons. One, though, is to identify you as the owner of a quilt should it be lost or...

Piecing Thread by Dannielle
Ok, I really like my Star thread, 50/3, in about three different colors. It only costs about $5 a spool, but I am tired of trying to find it in the stores and am wanting to order online. Threadart.com has a long-staple Egyptian cotton in 50/3 that looks very similar to my favorite, and it's only...

Spiral Eye Needle by Kate T.
I was watching ABC last night and they were talking about new inventions that were featured over the past year. One was a spiral needle for hand sewing, embroidery, etc. Has anyone used this needle and what do you think of it. It claims to be extremely easy to thread. Kate T. South Mississippi

Basket/Triangles Block by [email protected]
I've been practicing sewing some triangles and you can see the resulting 12 1/2" block at: http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2553047760057527182fhTpzo It is the one called "BasketSmall". It's not perfect (center not square and some points cut off a little), but at least it's done :-). I tried...

Jewel Box Design by R. E. Wicker
I finally looked closer at the quilt on the frame and it is a simple Jenny Beyer pattern of the Jewel Box done in dark blue, dark red and white emphasize in the cross design. It is shown on my website under Matthew and Vicky's page of quilts. That one is bigger and flashier with the yellow, but...
