need inspiration by
Taria
Since I moved I have had a devil of a time getting inspired
to actually sit down at a machine and sew. I have lots of
nice fabrics, many wip's that would love to be finished and
a few things that really need to be done (baby quilts and
such) How the heck do you get back into your work when...

New Bernina Series 8 Sewing/Embroidery machines by
John
On another forum earlier today somebody posted some pictures from the
Kansas City roll out of the new Bernina series 8 machines. I checked
them out and the machine is "Large" to say the least. It has a very
big screen on the front of it and a truly big hoop for embroidery. I
think she said it had...

On 12-block quilts representing the months through the year September is school, October

OT - need help with light bulb by
Kay Ahr
This is not a joke. The question is -- how many quilters does it take to
change a light bulb? The answer is -- more than this one quilter writing
this message!
I can't believe what happened. The light bulb in the fan/light in my dining
room ceiling burned out. So I tried to unscrew the bulb...

Quilt Kit -- Is That Cheating? by
Sherry
I just finished a kit purchased from an online quilt shop, that
included a Fons and Porter pattern. It was for a
child's Hungry caterpillar quilt.
I decided to hand-quilt it, since it was so small; I took a lot of
trouble to be extra careful since it is intended
for my first grandchild (who...

OT QI's by
Michelle[_2_]
Hi All,
I know some of you are dog lovers as I am; cats are OK too, but just. I
have a little Maltese, 7 lbs., and a large black Lab, 80 lbs. I keep my
house clean, vacuum regularly, etc.; but, when I have my brother and SIL
here, who do not live with animals in the house, they assure me that...

received from our Bonnie NJ -
Hi Polly,
I wanted to let you know that I will only be sending one quilt for the
babies in Mississippi. I will save the address and send one when I can.
My son decided that he no longer wanted...

VERY OT Me, again, with another update by
Leslie & The Furbabies in MO.
Friday morning, very early, I developed cellulitis in my surgery leg. There
was some concern by the ER doctor that the infection might travel to my new
hip prosthesis, so I spent all of Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and most of
Monday and Tuesday flat in bed with my leg elevated gobbling...

OT Breast Cancer Rant by
steve
Hello All
Well, I am on a rant today, let me tell you. A former student of mine, whom
I think very highly of, is at home this evening caring for his mother who
had a complete left breast mastectomy today. That is not even half of what
irritates me. She arrived at the hospital at 6:00 am and...

Warm & Safe Batting? by
Mickie Swall
The Warm Company who makes Warm & Natural cotton batting has a new
batting that is made from Plantation Trees (what ever those are) and
this batting is supposed to be flame retardant. One of these battings
has come to me with a commissioned quilting project, and I'm curious
to know if any of you...

Basting techniques? (was: least favorite part of quilting) by
SewVeryCreative[_3_]
It seemed like everyone hates the process of basting quilts the *most* ...
so I was wondering, what is YOUR preferred method of basting? It seems that
there's oodles of techniques out there, so what works best for YOU?
For me, I usually do the REALLY time-consuming method of hand-basting...

I think I am an addict by
John
How do you know if you are a quilting addict? Let me tell you what I
think.
1. I haven't sewn any clothing patterns for about 6 months. I used to
sew a lot of clothes, and now I never even think about it. I probably
will at some time in the future, but right now, it doesn't even cross
my mind.

IDIOT! by

Me: complete pillock.
Expensive mistake. I could make excuses about not being well, being
tired, and so forth, but it really boils down to NOT PAYING ATTENTION to
what I was doing...
I had a nice big green Olfa cutting mat...
I have a nice little ironing pad for those times when you really...

the least of these by
Polly Esther[_5_]
Can you make a quilt about 17" square? A burial quilt for a wee one who was
born too soon? Our group needs about 100 fetal demise blankets. This state
holds the very painful record for the most premature births/deaths in our
nation.
It is a tough call. Making a quilt for a burial is...
