How can I polish a chain? by
Mike Dodds
I'm very much a beginner in silversmithing. I think to practice soldering I
will make a chain. The book I have suggests using steel shot to debur teh
links before soldering and using a tumbler with the same shot to polish the
finished chain. I've got enough to buy without the expense of a tumbler,...

Hi All.
You know the old saying, "to err is human, but to really screw up you need a
computer"...
Well, I did it again. I finally got the
submission address for this group working right again at this location (I'm on
vacation, using an old out of date laptop, so I...

Silver sheet? by
Ian Rogers
Hi everyone, I apologize if I'm about to ask the ultimate newbie question,
but I'm not sure what to buy. I was given an 18mm x 13mm 'blue paua" oval
cabochon. It's very shallow, only about 1mm tall. Flat back.
So I thought I'd set this and either make a necklace or a ring.
What guage of silver...

Jay C. Canale
Hello all,
Can anyone recomend a good sonic cleaner? I currently own a sonic
cleaner I bought from Gesswein. I am a long standing customer of Gesswein
but I am very unhappy with the cleaner. It's a Gesswein/Elma Ultrasonic
Cleaner LC30H an it just doesn't seem to do a good enough job.
Any...

UK Hallmarking Gripe! by
Terry
Does anyone on this NG have any opinions about the UK Assay Office and the
minimum charge they impose?
Personally, I am totally against the minimum charge of 16 pounds sterling
(ex. vat) which the Assay Office charges for gold assaying and marking.
In practice you would have to pay 18.80 pounds...

Hi Folks.
Travelling again, and I'm running into problems. I seem to be able to access
the needed accounts for the group. My computer signs on. Finding the email
accounts on earthlink's web mail service shows there are four messages for the
group. But for reasons I've not yet determined, Agent...

Fashioning beauty
It doesn't take a professional to make a bracelet, ring or brooch. The
local Beadazzled chain offers classes in jewelry making, as do the Art
League in Alexandria and Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in
Annapolis.

I just started The Mall of Crafters and I am trying to build up my
Crafters list by giving webpages away FREE for one year to different
jewelry makers. I want the site to look good and well rounded in crafts
so I am giving some sites away to attract others who will be willing to
pay for...

Seeking Jeweler for project and information. by
Nomen Nescio
I am looking for a jeweler who can assist with the completion
of a small project of personal significance.
I have an old ring that has extreme sentimental value to me
and it is missing the stone. I know what was once there, but
I wish to have it replaced with something different.
There is an...

styrene burnout tips? by
br
I, like many of you I'm sure, have experimented with casting all kids of
stuff: insects, plants, small fish and lizards, etc. , but I don't have
much experience in plastics. I assume that there are types of plastics that
are not at all suited for this, ie: leftover soot or ashes, gas...

Question about the International Amber Association? by
[email protected]
On this website that sells Amber jewelry.. it says they are "certified"
Members of the International Amber Association. does this mean that
they, by LAW, have to sell only genuine amber and prove its real from
where they get it from? or can they easily get through by selling fakes
and not get into...

Andzia's Amber Jewelry and Beads Store (Poland based) by
porkchops
It says on the site: www.amberjewelry.com that she's certified and
all.
Anyone have any experience with ordering from her? Is her amber really
legit? Or any further information? (Since a lot of you guys have
connections probably...)
Looks like she has some really nice stuff there too.

"created diamond" by

Hi.
Out of all the diamond simulants out there....is there a "best kind/type"?
all of them tout that their diamond simulant is better than others, or how
close it resembles a real diamond so closely, etc etc.

Update (HallMarking Gripe) by
Terry
Regarding the Minimun charges at Sheffield Assay Office,
The other day, I phoned them to get some info.
This afternoon, the Assay Master, Mr. Ashley Carson, returned my call.
He told me that he will not be reducing the 16 pounds minimum charge
because they can't make a profit on parcels with 1...

Looking for artist to create small gold/silver figurine by
ScottM
I'm having trouble locating gold and silver smiths who can create small
(2") animal figurines. In particular I'd like to commission a vermeil
frog based on a particular photo, and possibly some other animals over
time. This wouldn't be wearable jewelry - this would be for display
purposes.
If you...
