new carving by
Big Ev
Hi everybody - the ng seems a bit slow lately. Maybe it is just my
server - anyhow, I finally got a good photo of the lady walking the
salukis and Larry got it up on the site. I'd love for everyone to go
see it and let me know how you like it. When you go on the site
there are seals on stands. ...

Looking for someone to carve detail in to oak steps by
Bitstreams
Hello,
As part of the decoration of my hall I'm planning to put in oak
'steps' where the level changes (in 2 places).
I plan to insert a short piece of oak across the width of the hall
(only a metre) and wanted to have a small design carved in to it -
this would happen twice, with a Canadian...

Custom Walking Stick for a Custom Head. by
[email protected]
Hi there!
A friend recently gave me something that looks like a lump of glass but
could be possibly used as a head to a walking stick or walking cane.
Now, I'm a bit at a lost as to what to do next and was wondering if
anybody could offer suggestions for a web site, store, or whatever that
would...

Lettering on Stick by

I have a person who wants to put a Scripture Verse on a walking stick.
I know I can print the verse Vertically and then transfer the text to wood
stick.
I wanted to see a sample of this type of thing. Anyone done this and have a
web picture of it somewhere? Or can direct me to a Link?
In other...

Wood Carving Links? by
[email protected]
I'm having a bit of a hard time finding good wood carving links.
Could you guys give me your favorite links? I'm especially interested
in seeing personal web sites with photos of finished carving projects.
By the way, do you know of any hobbyists making victorian furniture?

Large sculpture? by
[email protected]
There don't seem to be blocks of wood available that are much bigger
than several inches across. If I want to make a large sculpture, should
I glue together smaller pieces of wood? What kind of glue should I use?
Is epoxy OK? Should I try to make the core hollow to avoid cracking?

Carving Long, Coarse Hair by
[email protected]
I'm about to start carving some reliefs of animals and I'm looking for
advice on how to handle some of the details. Specifically, I'm doing
some squirrels with bushy tails. Squirrel tails have an outer layer of
coarse guard hairs that stand out individually and help give the tail
its distinctive...

Which Tool? by
BUB 209
I do wood repair for a car restorer and every now and then a tricky
assignment pops up - what it is, some of the old cars from the '30s
have cloth tops over a wood frame. Where the top meets the body
in the back the upholsterer needs a groove to tuck the cloth into, and
I tried using a tiny saw...

Carving Texture & Fur by
Jim
Hi-
I'm trying to ifnd out how to make decent fur on a carving.
All the books I've read, just mumble something about adding texture
and get past the subject in under 25 words.
Some books have a lot to say about burning feathers into a
woodcarving.
I am not real interested in wood burning. I...

Newbie to this discussion board by

Hello all. I am new to this board. I have been carving for about 4-5
years. My first carving was a Horned Grebe. I did carve a few wildfowl
but found I liked carving Wood Spirits better. I have carved a number
of them. I usually use Cottonwood bark but I recently received a
cypress knee so I am...
