making slumped items from wine bottles by
Marmaj40
Someone that I know had a slumped wine bottle that she bought to be used as a
bowl, or dish. I am really a potter, but thought I might like to try to make
one of these, but don't know a thing about it. My question is could someone
tell me of books I might buy, or give me a brief instruction on...

Staining putty by
Gordon Watt
I'm restoring an old (1850's) oak window frame, and the original panes of
glass were puttied in (no sprigs). While the inside rebate is large enough
that no putty need show, I'm concerned that a modern putty will stand out a
bit on the outside
Can anyone suggest a method of staining putty to match...

hand blown glass by
nulllo
you want the short answer don't you?
Handblown glass is made by hand and requirres a furnace set up or a
special torch. there is blowing invloved in both types, but both are
still considered "glassblowing".
With the torch you blow into a small glass blow tube, with the
furnace you blow through a...

Blackening Lead Came by
Cactus Bob
I have never quite figured out how to get that rich black color on lead
came. As the final step I have tried using a bristle brush, car buffing
wheel, etc. I never got that jet black look. Maybe I used the wrong kind
of brush or wimped out too soon; I don't know. Any suggestions,...

Sources for clear textured glass? by
Moonraker
Who are the manufacturers who make the "exotic" clear textures? What I need
to match isn't one of the usual suspects from Spectrum? I'm trying to
find a glass similar to Spectrum's granite, but with a closer-together
pattern. Almost like the exaggerated pebbles like you'd see on the leather
of...

Holland and Sage Lampworking Class by
D Brock
Hi ---
Any of you lampworkers ever taken a class from Holland and Sage? They'll be
teaching at the Houston Bead Society show next month (where I'll be
traveling on business), trying to decide whether to spend my weekend in that
class. Any experiences to report?

I've been reading about, but never done stained glass. One question
I've had is when do you use came and when foil? What's the criteria
that you use to choose which?

What to do with a glass head by
C Ryman
I have a hollow glass head from Pier 1. I was originally going to mosaic it
and turn it into a table lamp. But I have been thinking (belatedly) that
there is no air holes for the heat to escape. I thought about drilling
holes in the top of the head but that is where the glass is thickest...
