Miniature Ivy? by
Cathy Weeks
Has anyone ever put a bunch of ivy on the outside of a house? My
searches of most sites turned up wallpaper with ivy patterns or potted
plants, not long vines.
I thought about using dark green wire, but getting tiny leaves to
stick to it seemed like a pain.

Update - Which glue for glass tiles? by
Cathy Weeks
Ok, I emailed the place where I bought the tiles and they recommended
their own adhesive ("Mosaic Mercantile") but if I can't find it (they
recently began selling to Michaels, so I might actually be able to
find it easily), but if I can't get that, then Liquid Nails or
Weldbond would work. They...

Loose electrical connection AFTER wallpaper is up by
Cathy Weeks
Ok, I got the wallpaper up yesterday morning (finishing the lower
floor), and I discovered hours later that there's no power to the
upper story. The coach lights still turn on just fine, so that means
the loose connection is AFTER them. But there are two splices between
the coach lights and where...

Update - loose connection found and fixed, and question by
Cathy Weeks
Hi all,
In talking through the problem of the two possible problem splices I
figured out how to isolate which splice was the problem. There was a
bit of exposed tapwire between the splices where the tape went through
a doorway. The tester didn't light up in that spot so that meant the
first...

Using brads in an MDF house - drilling VERY small pilot holes? by
Cathy Weeks
Hi all,
I've been using eyelets for my electrical since the wood is so hard,
I've used a crappy mini hand-drill with a #55 bit to drill the pilot
holes for the eyelets.
Now, since then, my husband gave me a dremel for my birthday, and it's
like a miracle, it works so well for so many things. I...

Installing a Fireplace? by
Cathy Weeks
Ok, the fireplace is nearly done. It just needs a coat or two of
polyurathane. But how do I install it?
When I set it in the dollhouse against the appropriate wall, it leans
outward slightly, and doesn't sit tightly against the wall. I can with
my hand pull it against the wall, but then there's a...

Outlet and mini plug not working!!! Help! by
Cathy Weeks
Ok,
I installed the mini plug on the lamp as per instructions - I cut off
the big plug, stripped the wires, inserted them in the sides, slid the
pins and and used pliers to get them all the way in. Then I plugged
it into an outlet (uninstalled) and touched the outlet pins to two
live eyelets on an...

Outlet loose connection? by
Cathy Weeks
Ok, I got the light fixture working, the mini plug is successfully
installed, and then I install the outlet into the tape run.
I drilled very shallow pilot holes with a #70 bit. The bit was
slightly smaller than the pins in the outlet. I pushed the outlet in
just far enough to hold in place, and...

Bubbles in wallpaper ... fixable? by
Cathy Weeks
In the process of working with the electrical, I used some pretty
bright flashlights to see what I was doing, and discovered that the
room with the dark wallpaper has some pretty significant bubbles in
the paper. I don't have bubbles in the room with the light-colored
paper, so I'm guessing the...

Which glue for glass tiles? by
Cathy Weeks
Hi all,
My mini-mosaic (3/8" square) tiles arrived by UPS this morning, and
now I can start on the bathroom floor. They are beautiful.
So, what glue do I use to stick the tiles to a posterboard backing?
Elmer's Glue all or Tacky Glue?

r.c.d netiquette question by
Cathy Weeks
I ended up ordering some building supplies, but had to buy large
quantities. Would it be a breach of ettiquette to offer them for sale
here AT COST plus real shipping (no handling)?

painting a paneled door neatly? by
Cathy Weeks
The cottage has a pre-assembled door, which in my opinion, is no
favor. It's got four panels on each side, that have already been glued
down (and tightly, so I can't pop them off). I painted around the
panels, but I have no idea how to get the edges of the panels painted
without ruining the...

More copper flashing questions by
Cathy Weeks
Would Victorians have used copper flashing around the base of a stone
chimney? Or would someone in the current times - if they had a
victorian cottage they were restoring - would they use copper flashing
around a stone chimney?
In my web research I've seen lots of photos of flashing around...

Nail holes in hardwood floors? by
Cathy Weeks
Ok... I started on one of the floors with the coffee stirrers. I read
somewhere that you should put two tiny indents at the end of each
board, so that the stain would darken them, and simulate nail holes.
However, I looked at my real hardwood floor, and it doesn't have them.
And the sheets of...

Wallpapering directly to walls or to posterboard first? by
Cathy Weeks
I had an idea about wallpapering - it's going to be difficult working
in such enclosed spaces, (though the gable is done already - I did
that portion prior to assembly - I KNEW I'd never be able to get
inside there) and I was wondering how I was going to hide some of my
(ahem) messy electrical tape...

Wow....staining is kinda fun by
Cathy Weeks
I finished the first of the several floors I'm doing with coffee
stirrers, and after sanding it, I applied a cherry stain. It looks
really pretty, and the inevitable gaps have nearly disappeared... the
reddish brown stain matches the background paint I used, so the gaps
are much less noticible now...

Warped floor - how to flatten? by
Cathy Weeks
The first coffee stirrer floor is done. Stained, polyurethaned, etc.
Looks great. Only problem...it's fairly warped in places, despite
being flattened by books at various points, and the pushpins that held
it flat while being polyurethaned.
I thought about just weighing it down for a week or so,...

Goodbye for awhile by
Cathy Weeks
Well... I'm moving to Minnesota from New Jersey, so my dollhouse is
quite on hold - I've got too many rennovations on my full-sized house
to oversee - I just don't have time for the hobby.
I'll see you guys in a few months when I get settled!
