Hi, I realize that we all have our ups and downs and hope that today
finds you well.
If you have a moment, I'd like to invite you to take a peek at my first
new design in 5 months... "Pirate Treasure: the Oak Island Mystery".
This piece was inspired by real-life treasure hunts which have taken
place on Oak Island since the late 1700's...
http://www.lynnenicoletti.com/new.html.
If you're one of those people who are experiencing thumb and wrist pain,
you might also be interested in a link at the bottom of the page noted
above that's labelled 'De Quervain's Tendinitis'. Thank you very much
for taking the time to read this message and, if you stop by, I hope you
enjoy your visit.

Another absolutely unique and ingenious design, Lynne! Congratulations!!

LOL I'm not Lynne's best friend either, but after having stitched so many
of her designs, I can attest that they are also a pleasure to stitch !

Not only that, but as I've said before, her Velveteen Rabit, Alice, and
Aladdin designs have taken me back to reading the "classics" again as I'm
stitching them. And now seeing this new design, I'm off to discover more
about this mystery. I can't believe I've never heard of it !

Another great one, Lynne :)

Lynn,

As usual your design is very different and very lovely.

As to De Quervain's Tendinits. I'm sorry to say that about 13 years ago
I've been there and done that.. The only thing I can add is that I
eventually had to have a cortisone shot into the wrist. Happily, it has
never come back as bad as it was and I've been able to control it by wearing
the brace for a few weeks when I feel it coming on. It definitely seems to
get worse when I knit and is not as bad with cross stitch.

So far it hasn't stopped me .

I really like it also. I've read a few books Oak Island - strange place.
Wonder if anything is really there!

I'm not Lynne's best friend, either, but I'll chime in to add that the
Alice, Thimbleina, Santa, Aladdin charts are all getting notice (and
sales!!!) in my little corner of the cross stitch universe. I'm
itching to get my hands on that Pirate, too! :^) Nice!

Lynne,

Another ever-so-clever design! This might be a must-do for my husband, who
is very interested in Oak Island. It is at least a must-buy so that I can
study it better.

One thing that just fascinates me about your work...how do you figure out
how to make the "hidden" parts of the design? The colors have to fit in
with the overall design, but have to be subtly different so that we can see
something else as well.

Oh dear - another one that I'll have to add to my stash pile. I've done
Maple Leaf Montage, and have The Play's the Thing in my to-do pile. As
always a wonderful design.

Thanks Lynne for all your hard work.

Thank you all very much for your interest in this piece and support of
my designs. I also appreciate the time and thought that you've put into
your very interesting responses.
I'm glad to hear that you've pretty well recovered from your De
Quervain's Tendinitis, Lucille, but was sorry to read that you had to go
through a cortisone shot to get to that point (I've heard that they're
extremely painful). I found the brace very helpful too and still like
to use it for added support when pushing a grocery cart (I'm very short
and shoving those giant shopping trolleys around forces my wrist
backwards) or when walking our rather exuberant dog. I don't knit (not
often or well, anyway) and didn't realize that it was more difficult
than stitching... still haven't tried wood-carving again yet.
It's hard to explain, Allie, how things get 'hidden' in these pieces.
Really, it's a lot of trial-and-error... and frogging!! Often, the
colours that I've originally chosen for a 'hidden' section don't work as
well in practice (on fabric, with embroidery threads) as they did in
theory (on paper or the computer screen). If it seems too 'hidden', or
perhaps not 'hidden' enough, the stitches come out, the chart receives
an adjustment and it's re-stitched until it works. The "Design
Storyboards" on my web-site give details about how some of the charts
were developed but I haven't yet managed to prepare one for the Pirate.
Thanks again, everyone... have a terrific holiday weekend.

Hi Lynne,
I just want to tell you that the cortisone shot isn't so painful that if the
doctor suggests it you should say no. It sure doesn't hurt worse than your
wrist and thumb when the tendonitis is flaring up and in my case one shot
did the trick.

I also wanted to say that Thimbelina is happily watching over my sewing
machine in my all purpose den and has gotten many comments, such as surprise
when my friends examine her and awe that someone thought up such a clever
design.

Now--hint, hint-- if there were only a companion piece for a computer for
someone to love and care for !!!
